(Excerpt from: Chapter 6 – Getting What you Really Want)

Dreams and goals have power. When you dream, you think creatively about the life you would like to live. When you set goals, you tell yourself and those around you that you are working towards something that is important to you. When you set goals to attain your dream life, you are saying “I’ve finished waiting—I’m going to make this happen.”

There are a lot of people pulling at your pocket and countless pressures on your life, but when you are clear about the life you want, you are free to set your own agenda for your finances and your life.

You might be thinking that being ‘good with money’ is about being clever with numbers. And while financially secure people do keep a close eye on their bottom line, the biggest secret to their success is that they know what they consider to be a good life and they do what they need to do to live it.

It’s not a coincidence that people who focus on living happy, fulfilling lives often end up making more and saving more money.

Your goals and aspirations are the greatest motivators you have to attain and maintain financial control. When you’re tempted by old habits, it’s going to be the things you really want that motivate you to stay in control.
